I just heard a librarian on Radio 4 citing their new self-service checkout system as an example of how they were raising their game in the face of the challenges of the modern world.

Somewhere in Rome, it's possible an educationalist was boasting of the high availability of fiddle lessons while smoke drifted in through their window...

I'm hoping that the BBC picked the most random sound-bite they could to go after their "what with the rise of audiobooks, the Kindle, and other digital threats..." introduction. Because the idea of self-service checkouts being the vanguard of the libraries' response made me laugh out loud in the kitchen, and that doesn't happen very often.
