Anyone who's a regular donator to Greenpeace in the UK should probably check their bank account -- today they debited me 1200 quid rather than my usual 12 quid, and according to my bank I'm about the hundredth person who called them about it, so I reckon the've missed the decimal place out for _everyone_. Maybe there's a _real_ big whale that needs saving somewhere...

Bloody hell. That's not going to do them any favours - even once they refund it a lot of their donators will be out of pocket for bank charges and the like. I hope they don't lose future donations over this but I suspect they will.

Yeah. Just heard about it on the news; they say they're going to refund any bank charges and wotnot. All that happened to me was that my card got declined in Tesco, but luckily I was carrying my credit card as well as my debit card.

My sympathy goes to whichever poor sucker it was who ended up covering for the usual IT bloke for the end-of-the-year DD collection run. Nasty fiddly job that, and easy to get wrong. The BACS file format has the amount in pennies rather than pounds, so there's normally a bit of the process which multiplies the amount owed by 100 -- I'd guess Greenpeace managed to do that bit twice today. Ooops.
