In other news, I had my first Alexander Technique lesson today. It was technically a group lesson, but there was only one other student there. I have now forgotten how to walk, have no idea how to sit, and am generally very confused when it comes to standing up. I understand that this is progress.

It all made sense, in that encouraging kind of way that all the best life lessons do: it seems to be basically applied common sense, and the strange bit is how you notice that you've been doing things that are clearly a bit dumb and counterproductive for ages without really realising it. This could be very good for me, if I manage to keep the awareness up, anyway.

I had to relearn how to walk, and then to run, after physio for a dodgy hip unearthed how I was using the wrong muscle (pushing back with the front muscle rather than pulling back with the back one). I fell over my own feet repeatedly for a short very alarming period, but it didn't take too long to relearn.

Wow. It is amazing how crap we are at doing the basics, isn't it? I mean, you don't see too many cats with bad posture, or giraffes with neck curvature, or whatever. This is almost certainly something to do with the fact that being intelligent is generally bad for you...
