I'm playing catchup on my "Favourite Photo of the Month" set. Can you give me a hand with November?

Which do you think? I think Light and Shadow may strike some as an odd choice, but there's just something I really like about it, especially viewed big...

Anyway. Erm. Clickbuttons:

I voted with everyone else, but I want to add a second vote for Balance too :)

Interesting! "Lonely" probably got the best first impression from the Twitter crowd, but I liked Balance more, I think.

I quite like it that the runaway winner so far is the only one I shot on the cheap pocket Sony :) The best camera is definitely the one you've got with you...

Interesting; have to confess I'm not all that excited by Lonely. There's either too much or not enough white space, but I can't decide which...

Oh, I seem to be odd one out.
Balance is far and away my favourite!

Argh! LJ ate my comment!

I have come to understand that photos of human things really need humans in them to tell a story, otherwise they can feel empty and bereft of life. Probably this is why I prefer natural landscapes and abstracts!

So the only one that felt right was 'Near. Far."

'Balance' would have worked too if there had been someone sitting in the seat. (though as a texture shot, the tree bark worked very well)

'Lonely' has too much of a vertical line thru the middle of the shot. (Something with which I've also tried experimenting)

Yes, think I agree on the human factor. Most of my photos of the month so far (http://www.flickr.com/photos/matt_gibson/sets/72157623319071940/) (still working on September as well!) have ended up as ones with humans in, too. I think it might be why I've not got a huge enthusiasm for natural landscapes and abstracts, in fact; I like people in my photos full stop...

I'd have loved there to be someone in the seat in "Balance", too, but sadly I didn't have time to wait for some brave soul to come out and have their lunch. I did what I could with the couple of dog-walkers there were around, but ended up discarding those because they just weren't being in the right place, damn them :)

And I'd not even noticed the vertical line through Lonely. I shall now be watching out for that to see what difference it makes!

But sometimes what one wants to convey in an image (or the reason a viewer connects to it) is precisely that feeling of emptiness, loneliness, bereft of emotions, of people...
